My experience on attending a traditional wedding

Last week, I attended a wedding of my Indian friend, Shellery. Before the wedding day, I went to a jewellery shop(PohKong) to buy wedding gift for Shellery. I picked a pair of pearl ear rings for her because she likes to wear ear rings wherever she is.

Two hours before the wedding, I went to Shellery's house to give her a hand in reparing for her grand wedding. As I arrived at her house, I saw a few workers were busy decorating the hall. Some seemed to be very busy preparing food and drinks for the guests. When I saw Shellery at the first sight, I was fascinated by her beautiful wedding dress. She was prettier than the usual on that day.

After all the things were prepared, the wedding ceremony finally got started. First, I saw a prayer blessed the sacred necklace, the 'thali', which the groom will tie around the neck of his bride during the climax of the wedding ceremony. Then, Shellery's husband purified himself by planting a branch of 'pipal' tree. After that, he was showered with milk by five married women. He wore his wedding attire after this. At the entrance of the hall, Shellery's brother, Johnny slipped two silver rings called 'metti' on both his first toes to signify that he was already owned by somebody. Meanwhile, Shellery was dressing herself in a wedding sari and blouse with a thick braid of jasmine flowers in her hair. She looked very gorgeous with the wedding custom.

The couple were garlanded and seated on the wedding dais in the hall. While that, I took the opportunity to capture some wonderful photos of the wedding ceremony. After the blessing of the bride and groom by elderly people, other rites were carried out such as the giving away of the bride by Shellery's parents and the tying of the 'thali'. Her husband tied the 'thali' round Shellery's neck with three knots amidst the chanfing of 'mantras'. Then, the guests showered the couple with yellow rice grains and flower petals. The couple exchanged wedding garlands, joined hands and threw cereal into the holy fire. The marriage was considered solemnized. The ceremony eventually ended and the guests were invited to attend a big wedding feast.
