The NSP which was first introduced in 2004 has one noble objective, namely to promote understanding, integration and unity among the young participants of the different races in this country. Thus I strongly disagree with the above statement "NS trainees should be trained to use firearms as part of the NS Training Program". Undeniably, the 3-month training period is definitely too short to train our young trainees to use firearms effectively. In countries where NS is compulsory, a trainee has to undergo at least one and a half years of tough training. Ideally, our NSP should focus on other major objective rather than the tough military training. Personally speaking, NSP brings forth lots of other benefits to the young trainees. Firstly, when youths are separated from their over-protective parents, they are left to fend for themselves.
